My dad bought the car in 1982. His original intent (I think!) was to fix it up and sell it. He had already done a brown 74, 4 cyl 4 speed that I was currently driving back and forth to college. As the Ghia project moved on, he decided to sell the brown one, and give me the "new" car. I wasn't happy with the automatic, but I loved everything else about it.
It was in pretty rough shape when we got it:

Back then, quarters cost a fortune, so dad "made" them:
